HMW kininogen, synthesized by hepatocytes, is a multifunctional protein. It is the precursor protein of bradykinin. In addition it is a nonenzymatic cofactor of the contact activation system of factor XI, XII, and prekallikrein and a major extra-cellular cysteine proteinase inhibitor. Kininogen links prekallikrein to a negatively charged surface thereby allowing activation to kallikrein by surface bound Factor alpha-Xlla. Kininogen also forms a complex with Factor XI and accelerates its activation to XIa by alpha-Xlla. Kininogens inhibit systemic proteases which are thought to have a part in various diseases such as cancer, muscular dystrophy and joint disease. >95percent pure by SDS-PAGE and >95percent single chain. Prepared from plasma found negative by FDA accepted
